Brainstorm and research.

Brainstorm: Animal rights. A poster with pictures of a couple of dogs and cats on them and writing saying that animals have feelings too and there would be charities that you can donate too that help abused dogs and cats be happy. Self harming could be poster with my photography of someones arm in blood and writing with helplines etc. Deforestation could be a little flick through portfolio of photography little parts of graphics and small video bits for you to flick through about how important this issue is and how we need to tackle it.

Initial research: My research so far has been quite eye opening and i feel quite strongly about deforestation. I think i can show this in my work. I am inspired by a video called "Dear Future Generations: Sorry" and the video is by a person called Prince EA. He makes a lot of these videos and this is what inspired me to do deforestation. It made me see actually how big of a deal it really is!

I think when 40 football pitches per minute full of trees are being burned and cut down by brutal, horrific machines and 50% of all the trees in the world have disappeared in the last 100 years. Over drafting animals to extinction and poisoning the oceans that much that you cannot even swim in them. Beijing forced to wear pollution masks to go to school. "This future i do not accept it. Because an error does not become a mistake until you refuse to correct it. If a farmer sees a tree that is unhealthy, they don't look at the branches to diagnose it, they look at the root... We are the root... It is up to us to take care of this planet... We must globally warm our hearts and change the climate of our souls and realize that we are not apart from nature, we are a part of nature." - Prince EA.

"When the Last Tree Is Cut Down, the Last Fish Eaten, and the Last Stream Poisoned, You Will Realize That You Cannot Eat Money" - Alanis Obomsawin. Prophecy of the Cree Indians.

Why should I care about trees? It's money that lets me buy food, lets me buy drinks and keeps my family a float.

Here is some facts about trees that you should take into consideration.

  • They're gorgeous and amazing.
  • We literally breathe the air that they are creating.
  • Clean up our pollution. Our carbon.
  • Store and purify water.
  • Gives us medicine that cures us. (There are more than 121 natural remedies in the rain forest which can be used as medicines.)
  • Gives us food that feeds us.
But this is what were doing to them.
  • Forests cover 30% of the earth’s land.
  • It is estimated that within 100 years there will be no rain forests.
  • Agriculture is the leading cause of deforestation.
  • One and a half acres of forest is cut down every second.
  • Loss of forests contributes between 12 percent and 17 percent of annual global greenhouse gas emissions. (World Resources Institute).
  • 20% of the world’s oxygen is produced in the Amazon forest.
  • Up to 28,000 species are expected to become extinct by the next quarter of the century due to deforestation.
  • Half of the world’s tropical forests has already been cleared.
  • 1.6 billion people across the globe depend on forest products for their livelihoods there by adding more to deforestation.
  • Almost half of world’s timber and up to 70% of paper is consumed by Europe, United States and Japan alone.
  • Trees are important constituents of the ecosystem by absorbing carbon.
  • Tropical forests, where deforestation is most prevalent, hold more than 210 gigatonnes of carbon.
  • Tropical rain forests which cover 6-7% of the earth’s surface, contain over half of all the plant and animal species in the world! So over half of the plant and animal species live in that 6-7%
So now you're thinking "damn... How can I help?" A lot of paper and cardboard is used unnecessarily for packing. This means more tree felling.
  • Re- use paper and plastic bags to discourage deforestation. (also saves you 5p)
  • Use canvas or paper bags as another alternative.
  • Pick products which require less packaging.
  • Be creative and mail manufacturers telling them to use eco-friendly products. Show them your deforestation knowledge by highlighting certain important facts using statistics.
  • Sign effective petitions that work and help reduce deforestation.
  • Support eco-friendly companies buy buying their products that promise more durability in an inexpensive way.
  • Be active and plant trees- it can be at your homes, backyards or you can join any organization keen on stopping deforestation.
  • Reduce the consumption of beef to tone down the pressure to clear more forests for the cattle.
  • Boycott companies by supporting organizations that care about the environment at the cost of fighting back for the evergreen trees.
  • Seek knowledge on deforestation and how can you prevent it from happening by reading newspapers, magazines, internet, TV shows. Spread the word and make it go viral.
Why should I care about deforestation when there are more important matters at hand like racism, sexism, homophobia, war or poverty etc? Because non of that will matter if we don't tackle deforestation, we wont live long enough to see humanity sort those other errors out. Non of that will matter. http://www.wix.com/ is the site i will use to create my website.
